A New Pathway for Out-of-School Youth

Young people who are not enrolled in school frequently lose out on the chance to obtain formal education and useful skills, leaving them unprepared for the workforce and driving high youth unemployment across Malawi. Rapid economic expansion has raised the demand for skilled workers in industries such as manufacturing, construction, tailoring and design, catering services and more — yet there remains a mismatch between the capabilities of workers and the jobs available.

Reality Hand believes this gap can be closed by offering chances for skill development and vocational training. In addition to increasing employability, skill-based programs encourage self-employment and entrepreneurship, empowering young people to achieve financial independence.

What the Hub Will Offer

The Vocational Training Hub — an active program under our Kids’ Education Empowerment Project (KEEP) — will train out-of-school youth in practical, income-generating trades:

  • Carpentry and woodwork
  • Welding and metal work
  • Tailoring and design
  • Plumbing
  • Hospitality and catering
  • Brick laying and planning
  • Community development
  • Electrical installation and electronics
  • Manufacturing (renewable energy)

A Community That Believes in the Vision

The hub is already in motion — and it started with the community itself. The people of Mtata Village in Dowa have donated 3 acres of land for the project and are committed to molding the bricks for the construction of the first building of the school.

When a community gives its land and its labor, the training hub stops being a project — it becomes a shared promise that their young people will have skills, dignity, and a future.

We are deeply grateful to the chiefs, families, and volunteers of Mtata Village for their generosity and belief in this vision.

What’s Next

Construction of the first building is the immediate priority, followed by tooling and enrollment of the first cohort of trainees. We will share progress updates as walls go up.
